'Josh Hawley is Our Time's Aaron Burr'

Steve Schmidt

Editor's Note: Steve Schmidt is one of the founding members of the Lincoln Project. He is a communications and public affairs strategist who has worked on several Republican campaigns, including John McCain's 2008 bid for the White House, and he is now a regular political contributor to MSNBC. On Monday night, Schmidt unleashed another attack at seditious Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley on his Twitter feed. MaxNewsToday has assembled this 5-tweet thread and reprinted it as one easy-to-read op-ed for our ongoing segment, Schmidt Storm. It has been edited for grammar and clarity. One foot in fascism and one in freedom, as the saying goes. Josh Hawley has no grit. He lacks hardness. He has never been in a brawl, ever. He’s been told how special and smart he is all his life. It’s all slipping away. He poisoned his career with his cynicism. Too bad he didn’t see Hamilton. Josh Hawley is our time's Aaron Burr. He has thrown away his shot. Josh Hawley is blind to his circumstance. Josh, reality isn’t the Sean Hannity delusionsphere, it’s our phone ringing and hearing the voice of one of your staff members. They just want to work again, and they know that you are the scarlet J. They know the Lincoln Project can cleanse it off of them. I know you went to Stanford and Yale, but honestly, do you not have a scintilla of common sense and native cunning ? Any? You are going to be upset with our ads. It is wrong to be upset with Rick Wilson or Stuart Stevens or Reed Galen, the Lincoln Project or the media. You did this. You should resign and let the governor appoint a conservative. You have shamed your state and dishonored the Senate. Resign. I used to give this advice to CEO’s with some frequency during crisis situations. I’d say, “if you are going to cave, cave early.” I think you are either going to resign or be expelled before this is all over. I don’t think you are hard enough for what’s coming. We shall see.
